ABOUT ME

Reb Chaim was ordained in 2014 at The Zielger School of Rabbinic Studies in Los Angeles, California.

 

As a both a Jewish Educator and a Rabbinic presence, Reb Chaim leads people to a loving progressive dialogue with their lore, and cultivates 21st century Jews of good human character. Reb Chaim is energized toward exploring Hebrew language, community-building, mindful worship and critical study.

 

Reb Chaim brings experience as an illustrator and skilled multi-media professional to all his occupations. 

 

Raised in a Conservative congregation in Upstate New York, Reb Chaim is the youngest of four siblings. As a child of immigrants (mom from Israel, dad z’l from Poland) Reb Chaim draws from an immense well of modern history and ancestral heritage.

WHAT I'VE DONE

Chaim served with Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation (now the USC Shoah Foundation Institute for Visual History and Education) for 13 years, in various content, supervisory, and instructional capacities.

 

While studying for the rabbinate, Chaim taught Religious School at Temples Beth Hillel and Beth Am, both Los Angeles synagogues. He was a teacher of Yehadut at Camp Ramah in Ojai California over two recent summers.

 

For two High Holiday seasons, he was honored to both lead tefillah and teach at Congregation B’nai Jacob of Bakersfield, California.  In 5774,

 

In 2013-14, Chaim served as the Rabbinic Intern at Congregation Beth Shalom in Santa Clarita California. 

 

Reb Chaim recently completed a splendid and impressive year as Director, Experiential Education & Jewish Life at Temple of Aaron in St. Paul, MN.

​

In 1985, Reb Chaim attended USY’s Nativ Israel year- program, and four years later earned his BA with majors in both Political Science and Fine Art from SUNY at Albany.

 

Reb Chaim's MA in Rabbinic Studies from American Jewish University focused on Jewish Mysticism and Hassidut. 

 

 

WHAT I DO

This summer (2017), Reb Chaim is excited to complete a Chaplain Residency at UCLA Santa Monica Hospital, and to pursue board certification through ACPE (the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education). 

 

Over the past year, Reb Chaim has ministered as a full-time interfaith Chaplain in the Spiritual Care Department at UCLA Health System.  As a Spiritual Care Provider,  Reb Chaim invokes a holy space for guidance and healing. 

 

With passion, presence, and curiosity for every individual's sacred paths, Reb Chaim accompanies hundreds of patients and families through treatment regimens and health challenges, attending to people at all stages of life.
